WildSteed of Flourish
Sep. 9th, 2023 09:44 pmI thought I was making great progress on the road to normalcy until I feel into a bit of a hole yesterday. The Sparrowhawk was valiantly trying to rally my spirits when I said pathetically, "Could we just lie down for awhile?" We had a totally great nap, but then when I tried to go back to sleep again at a decent hour, I stayed awake until 2 am because things had started hurting again. Sigh. Anyway, I managed to sleep for an acceptable amount of time and am now on an upward trajectory again.
We didn't make it to the farmers market because of sleeping too late, but we did cash the rain check from last week, when we didn't see our friends because I was still recuperating. We went over to the home of some of our old friends from our UU days. They gave us coffee and pastries under the big beech tree on their patio. We had lots of catching up to do, and it was a very nice time. Later in the afternoon, we went to church. The Sparrowhawk made some delicious kielbasa with multicolored carrots and another friend's homemade sauerkraut. After dinner I cut up a big piece of pork shoulder and rubbed it with a double recipe of sugar and spice rub and put it in the refrigerator to be cooked tomorrow. I also ordered an outfit that I hope will be suitable for the wedding of the Sparrowhawk's nephew, which we plan to attend at the end of the month. The mother and aunt of the groom are both very elegant and particular in their dress, so I know I will not live up to them, but I hope this will look as if I at least made an effort. I'm going for the "old hippie with an eccentic color sense" look, in natural fabrics so they won't drive me crazy when I'm wearing them. I leave that job to my shoes.
Most importantly, today is Raptor Starship's twelfth birthday! Imagine! This hardly seems possible. We called him up and caught him on the run with his parents from Laser Tag to the ice cream store, and sang him the Birthday Song on speakerphone. Our gift this year was a year's pass to the trampoline park.
