BlackPearl of Shadow
Nov. 2nd, 2023 10:17 pmI always wake up with a host of things on my mind that I feel sure I can accomplish . . . by 4 pm I may have accomplished ONE thing, and then I sink into the vortex of despondency. Oh, but TOMORROW it will surely all happen! Uh huh. Well, my one thing today was to make bread using the einkorn flour I got at the farmers market. This much-touted substance has all kinds of stuff about it on the internet. I just went ahead and did it my way. The internet says it makes a very sticky dough, and this did seem to be true. I cheated and added some regular flour until I got a texture I could knead. That meant it had regular gluten in it, which is anathema to some, but I have no objection to it. The internet also says it won't rise like other flour, and probably will need a slow, cold rise, like maybe overnight in the refrigerator, but mine rose like a dream. It tasted quite good, but not remarkably different from other bread. It has an unusual golden color. I like it. I'm just not sure it's worth the price of the super-de-duper special flour. I guess we'll munch our way through all four loaves, and then evaluate.
Other than that, I did a little bit of laundry, a little bit of cleaning. I lost a good deal of time discussing the latest communication from one of our kids re the task of deciding what they all want to do for the holidays. They all had such different requirements that I suggested they talk among themselves and decide what would be best overall. Apparently that was too hard to do. I was attempting a cogent and helpful reply that didn't make my head explode. Before I could finish it, we got a call from the Diva, with information that has somewhat changed the situation. Our beloved son-in-law, Kansas, has been advised by his doctors that he needs to do something about this heart murmur he has had since childhood. The consultation is next week. Until then, they have advised him that he'd better not do most of the work that he normally does. The Diva was not clear on exactly what they want to do with him. I hope it is the same TAVR valve replacement my mother had. At 90 years old, she came through with flying colors, so I think the odds of Kansas doing well are pretty good. However, we don't know, and it is a concern.
In good holiday news, my sister the Duchess reached out in a text and said her son Ikes and his family will be in town at Christmas, and invited us all to come and visit for Christmas, or at some point during this time. She now lives only half an hour away, and we would love to enjoy some holiday festivities with them! This is something good to look forward to.
