I went for a walk while the Sparrowhawk was at the gym. But I forgot to put my Fitbit back on after charging it, so I got no credit for it. Oh well. I know the truth . . . .

I texted Mademoiselle to ask how the moving went yesterday. She didn't reply, so I don't know. I'll call Madame sometime tomorrow and see what's up. I was just hoping to get some background from Mademoiselle before doing so!

We had a call with the Diva to hear what went down with the heart surgeon yesterday. She says Kansas will have to have open heart surgery to do a bypass on one of his arteries, and while they're at it, they will replace one of his heart valves with a tissue implant. They think that will be better than a mechanical valve replacement, because with the tissue implant, he won't have to be on blood thinners forever. They hope to do this sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas. He'll probably be in the hospital for about five days. So, they're definitely out for the holidays. I asked the Diva if she needed or wanted moral support in the form of a visit, but she tactfully turned this down. So that means we'll probably go to Chicago, since it sounds as if the Nipper is headed there with his family. Right now, I have a headache and don't feel like going to Chicago! But the Sparrowhawk feels sanguine about it, so I'll probably talk myself into it eventually.

The Diva and I were both in the middle of making dinner when we took time out to call. After I got off the phone, I finished fixing some carrots and cabbage with finely chopped onions (because those are the only vegetables I still had in the refrigerator). I blanched the carrots and cabbage, added them to the onions and sauteed them, and thought they were bland and boring, so I added some balsamic vinegar, some brown sugar, and a splash of soy sauce, making them sweet/sour/salty. It was an improvement. We also had a cheese omelet, and the Sparrowhawk had a piece of toast and jam. I call it "dinner," but it was good enough.

Toast and jam goes with omelettes. Breakfast for dinner is the best.

I hope Kansas' surgery goes great. Writer friend Janni had a heart valve replacement some years ago, which I think was tissue?
