ArcticTern of Ember
Nov. 13th, 2023 10:00 pmMostly a pretty good day. The sun came up sparkling into a blue sky, and it was not really cold in the sun, so I was full of irrational optimism. I talked to Queenie, and then went for a walk and sent her some fall pictures, because she is in Florida. In a strange role reversal, she had the gloomy weather today, and without the consolation of bright leaves. Tonight I whiled away an evening making silly little cards to send to the kids to announce their secret Santa targets for this year. Every year I spend a couple of hours doing this--it's a tradition. I'm icing my knee again, which may well become a tradition. Today we got a text from the Philosopher, requesting politely that we let him know what we were doing for Thanksgiving. So the Sparrowhawk shot off a quick reply saying that yes, we were coming to Chicago, and were assuming that the Nipper was too. A couple of hours later, a text arrived from the Nipper himself, saying that after all this discussion, for various reasons, his family would NOT be going to Chicago after all, but staying home. Feeling somewhat nonplussed at this point. No doubt more texts will flit back and forth.
A very happy birthday to the Nonesuch, whose day it was. It's also the new moon, so off we go into the phase of Ember--the dying of the light. Not that I meant to connect that thought with my great and good friend the Nonesuch, whose sun should rise brightly for the rest of the year.
