RockCrag of Ember
Nov. 16th, 2023 10:24 pmWhen I woke up this morning, the sky was all rose-colored. I love being able to see a slice of sky from our upstairs window. We had to fuss around some more this morning in search of a hotel for our Chicago stay. We've made a reservation at a place that seems too far from the Philosopher's home, but he says it isn't. Distances are all relative anyway. I went to the store again--I hate these inefficiencies, but sometimes they are inevitable--to get the rest of our stuff and thus obtain a gas coupon. Yay! Toilet paper was finally on sale! I bought two 12-packs and saved nine dollars. Little victories. . . . One of my favorite checkers, the old guy with the earring, was at the register. "This isn't your holiday shopping, is it?" he said. He knows me too well. Normally a holiday would not find me with a decorously stocked cart of grapes, yogurt, a bit of sliced salmon, etc. And the toilet paper, of course. I told him no, we were going to visit our son this year, so I wasn't cooking. He mused about the weather. I said if it took a bad turn, I just wouldn't go--and this is the truth. I'm not driving through any more of those lake effect blizzards for recreational purposes. But it will probably be fine.
It was an unnaturally balmy day--62 degrees! But by the time I got home and put everything away while cooking up the rest of the bratwurst, it was too late to go out for a walk and still do the other things on my schedule. I did manage a short walk while the Sparrowhawk made brussels sprouts with bacon for supper. Alas, it wasn't great. My knee was giving me a hard time, and I felt a certain lack of enthusiasm. I keep plugging away, hoping that I'm helping rather than hurting.
