Dec. 7th, 2023 09:31 pmWell, I'm glad this day is coming to a close. It's not that anything happened that was bad, but just that there were too many things. All first-world problems, to be sure, but them's the problems I've got. First, I had a video appointment with my doctor at 8 am. That's way too early, but I needn't have worried about being ready, because I woke up at 5 and couldn't go back to sleep. So I felt pretty much like crap all day, but did not say that to my doc when she cheerily asked me how I was today. You know what I hate? I hate when doctors ask ME why I'm there. I always feel like saying, "Well, if you don't know, then I guess there isn't any reason for me to be here." Basically, she wanted to check up on my blood pressure after I started on a new medication. But she also couldn't pass up a chance to speak in a condescending way about my weight. I hope I get points off my purgatory account because I did NOT answer "Or you could just eff right off." I wonder if they have any clue that speaking to a person like me in this fashion does not motivate me to do anything but the EXACT OPPOSITE of anything they might advise. The Sparrowhawk said I should start a blog for my anti-medical establishment rants, and I would get many followers. But that would require me to give these people more space in my brain, and I don't want to.
Then I had to have a phone call with the guy who manages the money I got from my mother. I was all ready at 11 am, as requested. He didn't call. I called his secretary, who didn't pick up. After waiting twenty minutes, I called his direct number. Behold, he answered, and said oops, he'd been in a meeting that ran over, and was juuust about to call me. Again, this does not inspire confidence in a service provider, and again I had to bite my tongue to avoid a response involving imprecations. His suggestions seem sensible, and I will probably follow them, but I have now confirmed my impression that he's a bit of a jackass, so there is that.
Meanwhile, the Sparrowhawk had been waiting at the car dealer since 9 am to see if our car needs attention, due to a warning sensor that came on. It took them over two hours to conclude that yes, it does appear to have problems, but they have to get permission from the manufacturer to work on these particular items, and that could take days. Meanwhile they claim the car is safe to drive, so he came home again. They used to give people cookies in the waiting room at this place, but thanks to covid, there are no more snacks. Fortunately, I did make oatmeal cookies, so he got some when he came home. It was pretty much my only accomplishment of the day.
The Diva said she had seen Kansas, and he was in some pain, as is inevitable, I guess, but alert and otherwise fine. She and Angel Baby will be spending as much time as they can at the hospital in the next few days as he recovers. So it's a big relief to hear that. And we learned that Tron will come the day after Christmas and stay until New Year's, also nice to know. After that I was done, and the Sparrowhawk admitted he could probably use a nap, so we entered the horizontal state. He slept for 20 minutes and awoke refreshed. I was totally crashed out for an hour and a half, and probably would have stayed that way if I hadn't had to get up for a prescheduled Zoom. Better luck tomorrow, I hope.
