Since Sunday, when a water main broke, we've been under a "boil water advisory." This was inconvenient, though not as drastic as it could have been, because we still had some amount of water pressure--enough to flush the toilets, which is the one essential thing! We just boiled a big pot of water every morning and used it for drinking. Luckily, I had cooked a lot of things just before it happened, so we got by with leftovers on paper plates. The water main was fixed, and the advisory lifted this afternoon, so yay!

Happy spring to all. It has been snowing on and off all day, under a blustery wind. My poor little flowers are very sad, and we're all worried about the fruit crops.

It was Madame Day again. I arrived a little early. She was not at the door as she usually is. I discovered that she had forgotten it was Wednesday, so she was surprised but pleased to see me. The caregiver was just handing out her morning meds. She didn't recognize one pill, giving rise to her bon mot of the day. "What is this?" she said. "I didn't want this. Who can I talk to about this?" The caregiver said "You can discuss this with your doctor." Madame replied with great indignation, "I don't HAVE a doctor! I'm not sick!" Well then . . . . I fear she's not entirely well, however. Every week I see the shadow of confusion spreading farther across her sky. It's a hard thing to watch, though I can usually get her smiling and laughing a bit before we part. And so home again, through the driving snow. We agreed we can't wait to see the trees beside the road turn green again.
