WoodRat of Shadow
Oct. 17th, 2024 08:58 pmOkay, now I am incontrovertibly and extremely tired. Not because I did anything to speak of, but because I only slept for 4 hours. I waited until it started to get light, then started my day by hauling the table that normally sits on the screen porch into the house. First I got some pliers to force that little metal tab that slides into a slot to make sure the double doors stay shut. It's too stiff at its age to be slid by one's fingers. The table is not very big, but it's made of teak or something, so it's very heavy for its size. And the couch was in the way, so I had to heave the table over the couch and into a clear space. Blah. I don't think I did my knee any favors. This was necessary because the siding installers are going to work on the porch and wanted the furniture out of the way. I thought it would be easier to push the table through the double doors and into the house than for them to try to wrestle it outside thought the normal sized door on that side.
After drinking quite a lot of coffee and staring into space for quite awhile, I became able to move about, so I went to the grocery store. I still hate its new incarnation. I heard another patron plaintively asking where the Ziploc bags were. I felt like shouting "Ha! Well may you ask!" because I'd had the same problem last time I went there. I finally found a small bottle of the lotion I like, which had been absent for about a month. No such luck with my preferred dishwashing liquid. I had to settle for another brand. I hate this type of trip, where I have to spend money on things like toilet paper, Drano, and laundry soap--things that are always expensive and no fun, but you have to have them. I did get a chicken pot pie on sale so we could eat it tonight.
I was just stunned for the rest of the day. I needed a nap, but it was not possible, as the siding guys were still working and hammering all around the house. I wasn't fit for thinking much, so I worked on finding some photos I needed to accompany a short piece I'm writing. Now my house is a complete wreck with boxes of photos strewn about, and my brain is also awash in tiny glimpses of past moments--most of which were not helpful to my purpose, alas. It's terrifying how young we used to be.
More good news about Tron! After consulting with her oncologist, the doctors have decided to stop her chemo at this point. They said she still has radiation and hormone therapy ahead, and her body has to heal before she moves on into that. I think she must have looked pretty rough. She's very, very happy not to have any more infusions, and we are happy for her.

yay! good tron news! may her healing be peaceful.
oh, the needing of the nap, but prevented from the nap bc reasons. i admire your cussedness moving a teak table in spite of copious thwartage. i can vividly imagine doing just that sort of thing myself.
i hope the workers take the weekend off, that's what i hope.
