This was most certainly not the day I had in mind. First I woke up at 5 and couldn't go back to sleep. Oh, fine, I thought, I'll just stay up for awhile and then maybe go back to bed and sleep in. However, I'd received an email from my sister in law, Ms. Science, to say that she'd made an appointment for my mother to have a haircut at the in-house salon, and someone needed to call her and remind her of this. So, first I had to wait till Mother might be up, and then I had to start calling her. I couldn't go back to bed till she answered her phone, lest she miss her haircut. Eventually, I started getting a busy signal. This usually means she's on the phone with someone else. Lo and behold, I had a new email from Mr. Science, saying he was on the phone with Mother at that moment. I was exasperated, although I'm sure he was only trying to help. Jeez, you could have told me you were going to do it yourself. Then I would have been asleep.

Moving right along from there, I then experienced a barrage of emails related to the wedding plans and my mother. Some of them were mutually contradictory. All of them involved me being in charge of hosting Mother for two nights during the wedding, which meant rearranging my plans and finding a hotel room for some of my kids. By now I was too cranky and hungry to go back to sleep. Also, I had emails to write. La la la . . . I also wanted to call Queenie and make sure she was coming to our house the night before the wedding. I had plans to celebrate the April birthdays while they were here--hers and the Nipper's. A chat with Queenie cheered me up tremendously, to the point where I took a shower and went back to bed for a nap.

Later in the afternoon, when I was up again, I got another phone call from a dear friend back in Pennsylvania. It wasn't really good news. She may have had a mini-stroke, and she's starting out on a battery of tests to find out what happened. The Sparrowhawk went off to the gym, and when I hung up, I went out for a short walk. I was still groggy, but the fresh evening air wasn't too cold. This morning, my poor crocuses lay flattened, like deflated purple silk balloons, but a few of them have revived and raised their heads again. Robins foraged for a supper of worms. I'm sure the plans will all work out . . . one way or another . . . .

I slept badly last night, too. Am not getting a vast amount done at the dayjob this morning, but luckily hardly anyone is here.
