Last night, I dreamed that my brother was living in his truck, while doing field work in a meadow in the forest. I said to him, "You can't live in your truck forever. Winter is coming. You need to come home." If he answered, I didn't hear him, for I woke up.

This morning, I went to see Dragonfly for the first time since the Minister died. We had a lot to catch up on. She shared many thoughts and impressions. I was honored to be the listener for her, and yet, I heard things that troubled me. People sometimes need to tell you things that ease their mind by passing into your mind. It would be nice if I could then forget them, but unfortunately I don't have a very good forgettery--except sometimes when I really want to remember! It was very poignant walking into the house again, in the absence of so many who used to live there. Not to mention the Minister herself, I always miss their old dog, and the two cats. I got to meet the new cat, another tuxedo kitten who is a very handsome fellow. At one point, Dragonfly lay down on the couch where she was sitting. "I'm sorry," she said, "but I feel very relaxed with you and I'm so tired." "Grief is exhausting," I told her sadly. It is. We talked so long that we didn't have time to both meditate and go out to lunch. We chose to do the meditation, and then I went home to lunch. I was very tired.

In theory, we had another engagement tonight, and I hustled up another fast supper. As we were getting ready to go, one of the other people involved texted that their daughter had been exposed to covid at work. They asked if they should still come. The other people weren't concerned, but we decided to stay home, because we're going to see Tron this weekend, and we can't take any chances with that. I think it was probably for the best, because I don't feel great anyway. I took some time to text with another friend who wanted to fill me in on further developments in her daughter's breast cancer treatment, and lurked on the couch for awhile. Then I cleaned up the kitchen, discovered that I did have some molasses after all, and made a batch of gingerbread dough to chill in the refrigerator for rolling out later. So that's one thing to check off my prep list. Now I smell like molasses, cinnamon, and ginger, which is a very comforting perfume.
