Behold another day when I got 8000 steos, mostly inside my own house. I finally went out to the grocery store this morning, where I spent an inordinate amount of money. Maybe it's just that everything costs so much! Saffron has certainly gone up. I only buy it once a year, for the Lucy cats. And happy St. Lucy's Day to everyone. This once was the darkest day of the year. That is still to come, on our modern calendar, but today there actually was lovely sunshine, so we can celebrate that the days will be longer soon.

And then I spent the rest of the day cooking pretty much non-stop. I have created a large lasagna with extra vegetables (peppers, carrots, onion, parsley and spinach) cooked into the sauce. And there was a small extra lasagna with just plain sauce because I had noodles left over. Then there was the mushroom and onion quiche, for which I made the pie crust as well as chopping and cooking the veggies and grating all the cheese. I have grated pounds of cheese today. I made a batch of Lucy cats, which are golden rolls with currants, raisins, and saffron in them. And I cut out and baked two sheets of gingerbread cookies, for which I had mixed and chilled the dough yesterday. They came last and were probably the most wonky production of the lot, because I was getting pretty wobbly by that time. Tomorrow morning, I have to get it all packed so it can travel to visit Tron. We'll be staying with Deb and the Prussian and coming home Sunday. It will be a whirlwind trip. Hopefully not a whirlwind of snow. It's always a game of chance with the weather.
