DorsalFin of bliss
May. 14th, 2018 09:37 pmI spent large chunks of time on the phone, making calls related to my mother's health concerns. I got her an appointment with her PCP on Thursday, at a time when the Duchess can take her. I expressed my concerns to the nurse, who said she would pass them on to the doctor and try to find an appointment earlier than Thursday. However, she did not call me back today. I called the office again to ask if she had any news for me. The receptionist paged the doctor to remind her that a request was waiting, but I didn't get a call back yet. I'll try again tomorrow. I spoke to the staff at my mother's residence and made sure they were aware of the problem and were taking care of Mother on an interim basis till we get a diagnosis. They are. I asked if there were any results from the urinalysis yet. There aren't. I spoke with the Duchess, who stopped at Mother's on her way home from work to check out the situation and provide a new supply of support stockings. She also spoke with the staff. And finally, I spoke with my mother. I'm afraid she's rather oppositional and is covertly resisting the measures we are trying to put in place for her benefit--like making her put her feet up, and telling her to summon the staff to dress her wound instead of cleaning it herself in the shower.
An additional frustration is always added by our malfunctioning cell phones. My phone is currently working in the house. However, if I take it out of the house, it can take hours to reconnect to the Airave. The Sparrowhawk's phone remained unconnected for 16 hours after we got home yesterday, although mine, thank goodness, was still okay. BUT this made me afraid to take it out of the house, lest I lose all ability to take or make calls. So I was basically incarcerated in the house all day for fear of missing a call from the nurse. Don't ask me how this is possible, or suggest that it doesn't make sense. It seems impossible, and it does not make sense. I KNOW. Nevertheless, it is so. The Sparrowhawk, yet again, spent hours on the phone with tech support. They have nothing. Their original solution was that we should get a repeater router to connect to our wifi. This did not work. Then they sent us the Airave and said we had to disconnect from the wifi to use it. That didn't work either. Then they sent us the new super-duper Airave and said that would fix it. It didn't. NOW they say the Airave actually doesn't help that much--surprise, surprise--and tell us to go back to using wifi calling. But we already know that DOESN'T WORK. The Sparrowhawk tried it, and got a big three bars, which immediately shrank to one when he tried to make a call. I dunno. Maybe it's alien surveillance. When you have an urgent medical situation, it's pretty damn frustrating.
On the bright side, the flowers the Philosopher ordered for me on behalf of my kids, which didn't arrive yesterday, came today, and they are beautiful. Yellow roses, white lilies, and blue larkspur--some of my favorites!! I saw a white van bumbling slowly down the street. I thought "Hmm, I wonder if that's the errant florist." It passed by my house. Then it turned around and came back. Again it passed my house. "Oh well, that's not it," I thought. She parked in the neighbor's driveway and turned up at my door. "Up and down the street I went!" she exclaimed crossly. (We have big black house numbers next to the front door--easily visible from the street in daylight.) She thrust the bouquet into my hands. "Thank you very much!" I called after her retreating back. My delight and surprise were unalloyed by her attytude. The flowers are lovely, and it was the perfect day for them to arrive.

Date: 2018-05-15 07:36 pm (UTC)So sorry to hear about your phone issues! Mine is hosed right now, too. Nobody knows how it happened, but apparently the number got flagged (usually the result of a stolen phone) and the problem has to go through some arcane channels or something to restore it back to working so I'm sans-phone for, like, a week. I hope yours is resolved sooner than that.
