Oct. 30th, 2025 07:14 pmHoly smokes, I have a lot of plastic storage containers, colloquially known as tupperware, because I'm pretty sure the copyright police aren't listening in and can't come and get me. Fingers crossed. What happens is, I send out a flock of them with food inside, and then they are gone a long time, and meanwhile, I find it necessary to send out more food to different customers, so I have to acquire another batch of containers. And so forth. And then, all the containers eventually are emptied and make their way home to me, and then they overflow the shelf in the basement where the extras reside! I've been cleaning out the freezer, as well, so to reiterate, holy smokes I have a lot of tupperware. In a somewhat recursive process, I found a very large empty plastic storage container in the garage, took it to the basement, and filled it up with baby tupperwares, so at least they're all in the same place now. I hope they don't replicate and start hatching more.
I wouldn't say we are cleaning for the visit from Tron and the Lumberjack. They used to live with us, so they have no mistakenly high expectations of immaculate housekeeping. A modest level of tidiness and cleanliness, enough to ensure comfort, is an achievable standard. But the anticipation of visitors, and the oncoming holidays, have inspired us to continue our ongoing effort to ratchet that level up a notch or two. We spent most of the day on visit-related scurrying, punctuated by having to sit down now and then. I always seem to end up doing some cooking, even when I intend to focus on cleaning. I washed up what's left of the lettuce, so I can make salad to go with the pizza tomorrow. I had saved the bones from the short ribs, and I boiled them to make some more broth, and then made lentil soup with that and some carrots, onions, and potatoes, with a little zaatar, harissa, and turmeric. Just a touch--I like my lentil soup more soothing than spicy. Now I'll have to use some of my tupperware to store the soup.
I went for a walk, too. The Sparrowhawk and I were talking this morning about how we both feel we need to prioritize our own health more than we have been. It's so easy to slip away from doing that, because all the exercise and what not takes TIME, and time is the scarce commodity, and everything takes more of it than it used to. I think this might really be the last of the perfect days. Tomorrow it's supposed to get cloudy with a chance of rain.
