This morning, the clouds were deep, but the wind had died down, and it was no longer snowing. We packed up the cake and made sure to take extra warm clothes and boots. The roads were pretty clear and we happily sped away toward the home of the Duchess. Dr. Nurse & co. arrived yesterday, just in the nick of time before the snow. The Duchess served a beautiful dinner with so many nice sides--squash, potatoes, stuffing, green beans, corn casserole, rolls, salad, coleslaw and raspberry jello, which made the Sparrowhawk very happy. The Sparrowhawk brought a camera that he needed some help with, and he and the Duke, who loves a project, worked on that for awhile. Then they rested their eyes for a bit in front of a warm fire. The Sparrowhawk also showed the Duchess what was wrong with the ice maker on their freeze. He figured ours out, so he quickly figured hers out as well. It's always nice to feel useful.

We stayed only a few hours, because we wanted to get home before dark. On the way, it started to snow again, but stayed clear until we made it home. The kids all reported in from their various celebrations, and we heard from Ms. Science too. And we sent a picture of the desserts--pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and chocolate cake--to the Prussian, for his edification. The Duchess kindly sent us home with a box of leftovers for tomorrow. I think all of us were pretty tired, so it was a low-key afternoon, but sweet. It was so good to be with family. So many memories . . .
