ismoGood news--the Sparrowhawk is home. He's pretty tired, but slowly reviving. Periodic snacks from the stash I created are helping. I made barbecue sauce this morning and cooked up those wings and drumsticks that I got from the farm ladies yesterday. I divided the result in half and boxed up half for Nebraska and Strawberry Star. I also put chips and salsa and some fruit salad in the bag for them. I made a little dressing for the fruit salad out of yogurt, honey, and cinnamon. I was trying for at least somewhat healthy. People have conditions these days and I did not wish to kill anyone with kindness. Nebraska was really an angel to the Sparrowhawk, and I wanted to show some gratitude. I also had some chicken breast that I thawed out previously but hadn't cooked yet. It had to be done, so I browned it with mushrooms and shallots, added a little chicken broth and some white wine, and put it in the oven with the barbecue. Before I serve it, I should thicken the sauce with cream a la Julia Child, but for now it has been stashed in the freezer for later. I also did a lot of cleaning in the kitchen. It was not all that I had hoped to do, but that's it for the day.
Bad news--I learned yesterday that Jeff Carver, friend and fellow SF writer, has died. I'm sad. Even if I were to go back to Boskone, I could never now meet him there. Time hurries on. Perhaps I feel it extra acutely because my brother's birthday is coming up next week.
Good news--it is also our Redhead's birthday! She spent yesterday at an art market. She's quite remarkable in that she has always wanted to be an artist, and simply continues to pursue her goal, no matter what. She recently debuted a website, Vincent Van Gauche. It's fun just to look at, with its cheer, color, and indomitable spirit. It'll make you feel more like doing your own art. Happy birthday, Redhead!
