The Sparrowhawk assures me that I have worked really hard today, but it doesn't seem like it. If anything, I have set things more at sixes and sevens than they already were. There's nothing like starting a job but not finishing it. Most of my efforts are directed toward figuring out how best to serve thirteen guests for a potluck on Sunday. Configuration of tables is the hard part. It really doesn't help that all the basement things are still in stacks around the house. And now I'm going to have to move most of them. They all worked where I put them when it was just us, and then when it was us plus two of our children. But it's not going to work with a dozen other people trying to have dinner here. I've been slowly moving the boxes of games up another floor, to my so-called office, currently a repository of things that aren't wanted elsewhere. Oh the indignity.

I cleverly used some of the excess cardboard that the Lumberjack flattened for us, but that couldn't fit in this week's recycling bin, to make a mock tabletop so I could drag that around instead of moving the actual table. So now I know that it won't fit where I want it to, but without the trouble of moving it there. I have moved quite a lot of other furniture. And I got sidetracked into one of those little gumption traps one falls into, as I was trying to tidy up a small table so it could be used elsewhere. I had to put away all the CDs that were sitting out on top of it, and in the process I eliminated a stack of CDs we never listen to. I also did two loads of laundry and cleaned a toilet. Luckily, I did not have to cook, because we had lots of leftovers. The Sparrowhawk told me last night that he wanted it to be tomorrow so he could eat some more of my food. I did take a minute to make a small salad to add to the leftovers. Vegetables are important.

The Sparrowhawk needs vitamins especially because he has been working on the income tax. I think he's the one who has done a lot of work today! I hope I can finish solving this jigsaw puzzle tomorrow. We originally had a list of 27 people who might want to come! A number of them have RSVPed No. As a purveyor of hospitality, I regret this, but as a person who doesn't own a banqueting hall, I confess to a certain amount of relief.
