ismoWe're on our third day of doing basically nothing (if you don't count hiding from tornados), and I think I might be feeling a little better. It's hard to tell. I slept for 7 1/2 hours last night, with no long wakeup in the middle of it, so that's way better than usual. It was another rainy, gloomy day. I went out in the back yard in my rubber boots in an interval between rain showers, just to have a look around. Our entire yard is one big puddle, and streams of water are flowing down everyone's driveway and sidewalk into the street. The sump pumps are running constantly. But it's not wet inside. The Sparrowhawk says he feels very happy to have our new roof.
Right now, I'm upstairs in the bedroom, because the Sparrowhawk is having his book club downstairs. I'm always invited to join if I want, but I don't care to, because they read books that mostly don't interest me. I like my peace and quiet better. I love this upstairs bedroom, because it is spacious and has lots of windows. The houses nearby are one-story, so we get to look out over their rooftops. The evening light was very beautiful, with the clouds finally clearing in the west and the sun streaming in. The old gnarled maple tree by the western window is bursting out into tasseled red and yellow buds, and on the southern side, I see dark evergreens, and in the distance, extravagant pink clouds of what is probably magnolia blossom. Cheeky robins flirt from branch to branch of the maple tree. I feel loved by the sky, the clouds, the light, the trees, and the birds that travel through all those realms.
