Just a brief post . . . . Tomorrow, I'm going to take my mother to the Wound Care clinic. Plus additional confusion. Like, she had an appointment for tomorrow to get a doppler ultrasound to make sure she has arterial flow in her legs, but the staff where she lives were worried about her, so they had an in-house technician do the test already. I have to pick up a hard copy of the results and show them to the Wound Care people to make sure the test provides the information they wanted, because the two systems don't talk to each other. I got a text earlier tonight from the Duchess. She spoke with the nurse supervisor, who says if Mother's sores get any worse, the staff can't treat them in-house, and will have to call in a visiting nurse specialist to do the daily cleaning and bandaging. However, if Mother has the visiting nurse, Medicare won't pay for Wound Care visits in addition--and vice versa. Both daily care and the special treatments they have at the clinic are important for healing, but the system won't pay for both of them. Health care in this country is so messed up.

The supervisor also told the Duchess that aides who were helping Mother to shower also found pressure sores on her tailbone. Because of her leg ulcers, and unidentified problems with walking, she has stopped walking around and spends most of her time sitting. She is so thin and has no padding, and her skin has become very fragile--hence the pressure sores. It's like every problem leads to another problem. We've ordered a wheelchair and a hospital bed for her. I'm very anxious and sad about this. We'll do the best we can to make her comfortable. I continue to hope for some healing. She has surprised us before.

I haven't been sleeping well lately, so I'm tired and find it hard to focus. In anticipation of work on the storage unit next week, I've been going through some things we have stored in the house, reorganizing and getting rid of stuff. I'm not finished yet, and I hate to go away for the day and leave it all strewn around! When we moved here, we bought a lot of bedding items so we could comfortably put the kids up when they came to visit. That's mostly what I'm working on now. Minor accomplishments: found and washed a set of summer sheets. Found two duvet covers and put them on the comforters that the Sparrowhawk had taken to be drycleaned. Got rid of old lumpy pillows and sorted good pillows to go with sheet sets. Found the third of a set of nice wool blankets. Found an old wool blanket my parents had given us that needed cleaning and sent it off to be cleaned. Located and matched up pillow cases. Set aside some things for Goodwill and some things to be tossed. Washed the old wooden Noah's Ark in Murphy's Oil Soap to see if I could get the mildew smell off it, after it was unearthed in the storage unit. It's one of the few toys that I have a sentimental attachment to. One giraffe, one dove, and one snake are missing--the snake was so handy for children to chew on, and I think that's why he disappeared--but the rest of the animals, the lions, tigers, elephants, zebras, wolves, monkeys, and cows (or are they goats? hard to say) are still there. And the Noahs, of course. Slow progress.

and deeply impressed by all the bedding sorting you've been doing. go you! most animal shelters are happy to take donations of even the rattiest towels and blankets, because baby animals are so ... productive.

go you! rock on!

I am not surprised you're having trouble sleeping, with all that worrying about your mom!

Go you for dealing with all that bedding. That is really impressive.
