No posting yesterday, because I was very tired and cross. I've been having extremely communicate-y days lately--like, overlapping rounds of texting, phone calls, and emails. And an in-person visit with someone who is very talkative. And the Sparrowhawk reading me numerous old letters that he found. Some of these things are positive and some not so much. While Skyping with a couple of friends tonight, I got both a text requesting that I measure my head (for a handwoven hat), and a phone call on my actual phone which I wanted to take because it was about tomorrow's schedule. That was all good. But last night there was a decorous email blowup about the church committee we're on, in which I had to refuse a suggested task because it was a really terrible idea. The minister is stressed out about it, and is also having health problems, so I hated to deny her, but it's for her own good, because if she had us do this thing, she would be so sorry. Argh, and many emails flew about. At the same time, I was trying to communicate with the Duchess about future appointments. When I finally went to sleep, I had a bad dream and woke up.

Today I wanted to do more cleanup for the arrival tomorrow of Deb and the Prussian. They are seeking refuge from floor refinishing in their house. However, I accomplished almost nothing. Because of too much communication, and also having to go to the dentist and get my teeth cleaned. They had texted me to remind me of the appointment. I was already texting with someone else, and I accidentally replied to the dental office instead of my friend: "Ugh! I suppose I could tell them I'm not coming, but I dread losing my teeth, so I guess I'll go." They wrote back, "We're glad you made the right decision." I was mortified. But when I arrived today, the receptionist told me it made her laugh so much and she hopes I'll send them some more funny texts. The people in the office are great, and I like them all very much, so I'm glad I didn't offend them. My teeth are very shiny now, but I'm threatened with the dread deep cleaning if I can't get my gums in better shape. Waah. I floss the living hell out of them, seriously. Guess I'll just have to try harder.

My mother, tonight: "Oh, hello. I already talked to you." "No, this is me. You must have talked to Queenie." Later, after I explained that I'd been getting ready for company: "Well, when are they coming to your house?" "Tomorrow." "Well, at least it isn't tomorrow." Okayyyy . . . She was very sleepy.

so, yeah. i also floss as if i want to keep all my teeth, and yet, when the hygienist was poking them to figure out what number to put on the chart, they'd bleed, and the number was always a wrong one.

but: i started using an inter-dental stimulator, which is a little rubber cone on a metal stick, essentially. drag the point all along the gumline, inside and out, then poke the point in between each two teeth, inside and out.

after doing that for a couple of years, i got the very fine message from my dentist "you may break your teeth, or lose them for some other reason, but you're not going to lose them to gum disease. your gums are *perfect*."

so: maybe try that?

Sounds EXHAUSTING. I just checked on my next dental appointment, which luckily is later this month and not something I missed.
