Stayed up too late last night, only got five hours of sleep again. Sigh. Sucked down some strong coffee while showing the Sparrowhawk various news items and ranting about how is a person supposed to maintain an even strain in a world full of crooks and liars. I talked myself into a slightly better state of mind by telling bitter and funny stories about dead relatives, which unfortunately cannot be repeated. I really sympathize with the Sparrowhawk now that he is retired, as his mornings can be quite interesting, thanks to my lovely brain chemicals.

I'm trying really hard not to tumble into the pit of despair again. What sometimes works is doing one task after another--IF I can get myself to do them. We went for a walk by the small neighborhood lake, and then the Sparrowhawk took the folding chairs to the park while I walked to the coffee shop and got us some frappucinos. Then we sat by the shore and enjoyed the breeze. He napped and read his book club book. I didn't actually create wordage, but I tried to work out a number of my current difficulties on paper. We ate some delicious half-price salmon for dinner. Then he went to his book club, and I tried to call my mother (she didn't pick up tonight), watered all my plants in the back yard, and practiced the violin for Sunday. I was sure I had the music for "Pie Jesu," which we're supposed to playing, but I couldn't find it so I had to play some other things just to limber up. (It's pronounced "Pee-aye Yesu," but I always wish it was really just Pie Jesus. I'd like to invite him to play hooky from all the churches in the world and eat pie with me instead.)

You have to picture Gollum jumping up and down with the Ring held high above his head, screeching "my precious! My preciousssss!" That is me with my Movie Pass card, which finally came in the mail, as did the Sparrowhawk's. Supposedly, for ten dollars a month, we can see a movie a day. Not that we WOULD--because there aren't that many movies in the world. But there are enough that we can spend a couple of air-conditioned hours on Saturday and Sunday watching some of them, while the temperature ascends to the 90s this weekend. We also have the refillable popcorn bucket. We are golden. Going to the movies is another last-ditch maneuver for staving off Gotterdammerung. Back, you demons, back I say! The power of popcorn compels you!
