This is the third dark gray day in a row, without one hint of sun. It was snowing in fits and starts, just enough to cover over the parts of the sidewalk that were cleared. Trying to pluck up my spirits and post a few tiny wins, however trivial. I woke up far too early, and kept thinking it was noon when it was only nine o'clock. I attacked the ever-pending task of vacuuming upstairs, but as usual I ended up doing other things instead. I put away everything from the trip, including random shells and beach glass that had been wrapped in a sarong. Then I put away the Sparrowhawk's clean laundry. I filed some things that were sitting around waiting to be filed (and I actually avoided reading all of them first). I opened the file drawer and it was stuffed, but I just rolled my eyes and said "cannot deal" and jammed the new file into it. Later I went back and took out a couple of folders full of personal cards and things, and threw out a pathetic little stack of them, and stuffed the rest back into the drawer. It was worthwhile going through the files, even though I couldn't bring myself to get rid of most of it. It was a little archive of happy thoughts and love from family and friends--birthday cards, notes, and the like.

The Sparrowhawk came home from his eye doctor with good news. Post-surgery, his eyes are almost 20/20 with the glasses he already has. He doesn't need to get new ones, and he can see quite well now. Then we went to the bookstore and bought Advent calendars. December crept up on us without warning.

My mother will have a cardiac catheterization on Monday morning. It's for diagnostic purposes, to make sure there won't be any unpleasant surprises when they do the valve replacement. It sounds pretty daunting for a 92 year old. I wish they didn't have to go into her heart twice, but I guess that's how they want to do it. She doesn't have a scheduled time for the TAVR yet. Presumably they'll set that up after the cardiac cath. The Duchess will be with her.

bwe's mom is in the e.r. tonight, unless they've found a room for her. we can't quite tell what she's in for, but have been reassured that it's not pneumonia. ... okay then. if you've got extra woo lying around, point it at west virginia, pls.
