Marmot of Leave
Oct. 12th, 2019 10:19 pmThe cold front has arrived. It was brisk outside, and windy. The wind pelted the house and car with a hail of maple seeds from the tree in the front yard. There were a few welcome gleams of sun between clouds. We went to the farmers market for the first time in quite awhile. It was great to see our favorite farmer woman again, and she was glad to see us too. Sadly, we could not buy as much meat as we planned to, because there was no pork! She told us a sad tale of how the weather was so hard on everyone this year, including the pigs. Unbeknownst to the farm ladies, the pigs were too discouraged to breed. They found this out when spring came and there were no little piggies. They had to buy two new boars. Now they're back in the pig production business, but for now, there's no sausage. They were able to give us two pounds of unflavored ground pork, which I'm sure I can do something tasty with, and some Italian sausage made with beef. We'll have to try that and see if it's any good. We also bought a very large chicken from a different farm, and some celery, beets, radishes, potatoes, tomatoes, green beans, mushrooms, onions, three small cabbages, and some pears. I'm normally very frugal, but at the farmers market, I go hog wild, as you might say. It's partly because it only happens once a week, and I can never be sure I'll get back there the next week. It's true I have not been doing my part to eat up our supplies lately, but this lot is mostly for future guests, so I won't have to. I think it's a good sign that I'm able to think about cooking again. The Sparrowhawk gazed at me fondly and said it was good to see me out and about again.
The guy who said he might buy some action figures has apparently ghosted us. Perhaps it's for the best. The Sparrowhawk found another guy who might want to buy, and has contacted him. I'm really fine with just giving them away, but if someone wants to pay me, that would be nice. I doubt we'll get rid of them before visitors arrive, so probably I'll have to put them all back in the attic. However, I have organized them and thrown out the hopeless crap, so I know what I have. The wind is still whipping around outside. It would be cool if I could put my action figures out on the roof and a flock of crows or some night-winged bird would come and give them sky burial! "In a blaze of glory, play-People!"
