There's nothing like a little Beltane cavorting and a sprinkle of sunshine to cheer one up. The sun came out this May morning and made the wet leaves sparkle like clusters of diamonds and pearls on emerald. Such wealth and abundance! I drank my coffee out on the back porch, my bare feet cold on the damp concrete. It adds a relish to the heat of fresh coffee. I heard the small birds diligently chirping everywhere, as if this were their job and their vocation. The louder, sweeter calls of robins, cardinals, jays, mourning doves, and somewhere a thrush, sounded clear.
I had to tear myself away from this company to go downtown to another benefit luncheon--this one for Mind Meets Music, a terrific organization that brings music literacy to at-risk kids in our area, and in so doing, improves their reading scores dramatically. The music director from our Unitarian church created this program and brought it to the public schools. She is an amazing person. All the extroverting was kind of stressful nonetheless, so I was happy to come home and work in solitude for awhile.
I recently received an appeal from Tron to send her a care package. She has a large number of papers and grant proposals to complete this month. I love that she feels free to call and ask for support. It makes me feel good to be able to do something for her, even though she's such a responsible adult. Phase 1 was a Starbucks card, which I sent instantly. I'm working on Phase 2 now--I had to go to the store and do some baking. And then to the post office where I will also pick up stamps for my mother.

Date: 2017-05-03 04:02 am (UTC)We don't have as large a variety of birds in our immediate area, but I do hear birds singing before light every morning and there's a hawk that has a nest nearby and she always has something to say.
What a wonderful music program! I remember when my youngest was in elementary school and just started playing flute, the teacher in his gifted class and I had a discussion and she told me all the things music can do to enhance learning.
