HumusDecay of Leave
Oct. 7th, 2017 09:43 pmThis seemed like a long day--although it was also short, because it gets dark so much earlier now! The days are shortening at an increasing pace. We planned to have breakfast with Bee, an old friend of the Sparrowhawk's from high school, who now lives in California, but comes back to Michigan occasionally to see friends and family. It turned out her sister planned to come too, and then the sister invited her son and his girlfriend to join in. That was all right with us, and we enjoyed visiting with them, too, but as you know, the more people show up--especially people with whom one is only vaguely acquainted--the more tiring it is for introverts. Brunch was a lengthy process because the company assembled slowly, and then we sat over our coffee for quite a long time.
Bee is one of a group of four that includes three women and the Sparrowhawk. They are all great people, and I like it that they knew each other so long ago, and on reconnecting later in life, found they still liked each other. It's kind of like me and Deb, except that we never lost touch with each other. Bee is a nurse who works in clinical trials, but she started out as an artist, and was a scuba enthusiast and traveler when she was younger. Her family members all have various artistic interests, too, so it turned out that five of the six people at the table were artists in some way. The Sparrowhawk was the only linear/math kind of guy in the conversation, but he held his own well. It was quite touching to see Bee's genuine concern for him and the situation we're in right now. Very heartwarming.
I was late getting home and tried to do some writing, but didn't get very far. Yesterday we had reached out to both of our sons, and today we heard back from them. The Nipper, who was recently diagnosed with pneumonia, called us from poolside in Orlando. The Other Grandparents, known to Raptor, and thus to the rest of the world, as Fifi and Dude, are hosting them to visit Universal Studios this weekend. They will see the Harry Potter attractions, and other fun things, and I hope the Nipper will be able to spend some time sunning himself and taking naps. He is recuperating, but still sounds pretty tired. The Philosopher texted that he was doing fine after his eye surgery and would keep in touch.
Both today and yesterday, I practiced my violin music for an hour. It's not enough to make me a dance music virtuoso, but I hope it will help with tomorrow's festivities!
