I could have used another day of pottering around in low gear, but Queenie and the Fireman are in Michigan this week, visiting their grandson. Tomorrow is the day they plan to come and see us. They wanted very sweetly to take us out to dinner. Unfortunately, things like eating out are very complicated these days. The restaurant they wanted to take us to doesn't open until 4 during the current unpleasantness, so lunch is not possible. Same for a number of others. There are places with sit-down dining, but they have rather complicated protocols for just-in-time seating, meaning we'd have to stand around outside waiting, and it's going to be 95-ish in the sun. In the end, they decided they would just buy some edibles at the shopping center near their hotel and bring them over here and eat in our house where it is nice and cool. It's not exactly social distancing, but I think it will be okay. More so than trying to eat in a restaurant, anyway. But this meant we spent a lot of time re-cleaning things in anticipation of their arrival. I also made some Walnut and Onion Bread because it will go well with "charcuterie" which is what they said they were bringing. I also had to do another round of watering the plants, because they will surely die in this weather if I don't.

Then on Thursday, the Duchess invited all of us to visit her and social distance in her yard, out in the country. Her grandchildren are there for the week. She lives on the far side of where my mother used to live, so it will be a 2-3 hour drive. It will be hot. I may end up pouring ice water over my head! When we lived in Kansas, and the Nipper was a toddler running around, I used to sprinkle ice water on his head to cool him off. It will be a busy couple of days, but I'm looking forward to seeing my sisters. All this visiting is creating quite a bit of anxiety, because it's impossible to know what is safe. I think we'll be okay or I wouldn't do it--but the worry does nibble around the edges.
