ismoSeveral days in a row of getting up in the middle of the night made a temporary wreck of me. Last night I finally got some sleep, and I feel more normal. It rained all night and most of the day. I went for a short walk between rain showers. It was a very quiet day, windless and still, with a soft blanket of clouds veiling the sky. The only sounds were the patter of rain and the rustle of fallen leaves when birds and squirrels hopped through them. I saw one scarlet tree that stood out brilliantly among the rest that are still mostly green. I walked over to admire it just as the downpour started again. Fortunately, I had an umbrella.
The Sparrowhawk's work situation is kind of like torture. He had to give HR a termination date so they could start on the paperwork. He wanted to make it early, but he found out that they don't do COBRA. Instead, they just give you a lump sum so you can go out and buy your own health insurance. This process can take awhile. Therefore, the benefits manager felt that he would need to stay until Dec. 1 to make sure he can maintain his coverage. The evil boss may not like this, and I don't think the Sparrowhawk would like it either. On the one hand, he is still occupied with creating a smooth transition by providing information and procedures that other people are going to need. On the other hand, he has to go to meeting after meeting and transfer oversight to others without being able to tell them why. I'm sure that by now, word is circulating that something is going on, but he can't say what it is. I'm worried about the effect this is having on his health. He really needs to get out of there. However, the ball is now in their court, so there's nothing more he can do about it.

So sorry about the Sparrowhawk's work situation. I hope the evil boss will back off some since he knows he's leaving.
