Another day in which very little had time to happen. I woke up in the middle of the night. There was thunder and rain again--this time, buckets of rain. That's what happens when I water the garden. I'd only slept about four hours, but I couldn't go back to sleep. I was up until it got light, then went back to bed for two or three hours, so by the time I got up and all, it was nearly noon. Sigh. It would be all very well if only I could actually DO anything in the awake period. I did a bit of reading, but that was all. I was really glad I cleaned up the kitchen so nicely the night before. Messy kitchen in the wee hours is a buzzkill, should you have any tiny dispirited buzz going on at all.

By dawn, it was very chilly, and the day continued grey and rainy. I felt quite lucky and wished I could send some of this cool, rainy weather out west where it is needed. Holy moly, the apocalyptic pictures from the realm of Surtur! I also looked at those while I was failing to sleep. I received news that our old friend died shortly after midnight. I'm sad about that. Spent part of the day doing communications related to her passing. The Sparrowhawk and I went to the bookstore later in the afternoon. I put on my blue and white linen shirt and my opal earrings, because I wanted to look cheerful and not gloomy, and because it's a summer shirt, and summer won't last forever, as this recent cold and wet front shows. I found my Eco-Calendar for next year, and just bought it, even though it seems a bit early. I always kick myself when I wait to buy something and then it vanishes. I bought another sympathy card for a different friend whose brother just died. I already have one for the most recently bereaved. My shampoo soap bars arrived in the mail. I look forward to trying them, although I anticipate disappointment.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I hope your shampoo soap bars smell delicious, at least. Who cares how they make your hair look, I say.

Emailed Judith to see if she's getting smoke from the fires.
