Oct. 4th, 2017 09:53 pmWhat a tiring day. Most of my energy was expended on things relating to the bad situation we are currently dealing with. Not fun at all. And when I wasn't actually on the phone or whatever, I was too tired and stressed to want to do anything. I did a couple of loads of laundry and some house cleaning and furniture moving to get ready for the music rehearsal at our house tonight.
When we first got the piano, I was excited by the idea that now maybe the music group could rehearse at my house. We used to go to the home of our former pianist, but she retired from accompanying us. A couple of other people have pianos, but their houses are kind of small and it's hard to fit six or seven people around the piano. On Sunday, the music group is going to play some nice tunes to entertain the congregation after church, during the annual spaghetti lunch, so we needed some rehearsal time, and I was pleased to be able to offer our house. I'd rather do the work of hosting than drive across town, so it was all good from my point of view. Until I had this not very good day, which made me want to stay away from people and do nothing.
However, I had already invited them, so I made the best of it. We're playing lots of Latin music. Begin the Beguine, Girl from Ipanema, Con Los Anos Que Me Quedan, Europa, and La Bamba. Also a few incidental things like Misty, Moonlight in Vermont, and The Shadow of Your Smile. And Celebrate, just for fun and to give the saxophones free rein. We ran through them all tonight. I can't say our performance was polished. However, it can't possibly be worse than the last time. That was the last time the former pianist was the accompanist. She had become very deaf, and when the piano was moved to a different location for the dinner, she suddenly couldn't hear us at all. Catastrophe ensued. So it's bound to go better this time! Especially if I practice those pesky parts that go way up into 4th position. I hope I will do that. Right now, I'm just exhausted.
