EarlyDark of Ember
Dec. 20th, 2017 09:46 pmToday was the last day before the solstice. I can almost feel the wheels turning more and more slowly, gliding to the still point where everything stops . . . and then begins again. It was a very nice day for the tail end of the year. The sun could actually be seen rising, very far south, and there were at least patches of blue sky all day. Tomorrow another cold front sweeps in, bringing possible freezing rain and plummeting temperatures, just in time for our trip to my mother's. I have my fingers crossed that the freezing rain will happen only in spots, and that those spots will be somewhere we are not. Or we could just skip the whole thing and not have any freezing rain! That would be entirely acceptable.
Now we have just one day left to get all of our remaining preparations made! We worked really hard today, cleaning bathrooms, dusting and vacuuming, putting things away, doing laundry. The Sparrowhawk did a lot--the lion's share, I would say. The part that didn't get done was the shopping and cooking, so that's what I'll have to do tomorrow. Tron and the Lumberjack arrived right on schedule. It was so good to see them. We fell immediately into a discussion of "The Last Jedi," which fortunately they've seen, so no worries about spoilers. I must say it's good to have someone in the house again who can discuss Marxist dialectic and say things like "Replace charity with solidarity!" It's refreshing.
