May. 1st, 2019

After quite a string of nights with five hours of sleep, I was on my last legs yesterday. Around 8:30, the Sparrowhawk wanted to watch the first Avengers movie again. I knew I wouldn't make it through, so I suggested we watch it upstairs. We have one of the flatscreen TVs salvaged from various parental moves installed up there. It's not hooked up to cable, because we don't want to watch TV in the bedroom, but we occasionally use it for DVDs and things. So he watched and I promptly conked out. I remember thinking it was a very loud movie, but I stopped hearing the explosions pretty soon. I stayed in bed for about 10 hours. I woke up at intervals, but didn't stay awake. I heard the rain pouring off the eaves, in the intervals when I was awake. It was soothing. I felt much better in the morning. Not energetic, exactly, but eerily calm.

It was a good thing, too, because I had a spate of emails to deal with, plus a phone call from Queenie. The Duchess has decided she needs a week's vacation on the beach. I'm sure she does need it. This may involve some complications for me, however. I took a deep breath and decided to wait and see. I sent photos of various scarves from Grandmother's to Queenie, for her girls to choose from, and to my kids. I dumped another stack of papers from Mother's files. I was feeling good about my progress, and then discovered another whole box of things that I had overlooked, probably via wishful thinking! "By faith I declare you invisible!" I sorted out some of it but decided my mental health required a break.

The Sparrowhawk has been feeling suboptimal for the last couple of days as well. I don't think all these trips are good for him, which is one reason I resent them and wish they could end. It has been raining with great determination, but we found a space in between downpours and walked over to the garden store to browse around. He said that helped. He also had a nap while I was sorting. We watched some equestrian competitions--beautiful shiny horses soaring over lofty jumps. There were no Beltane fires because everything is soaking wet. "The force that through the green fuse drives the flower" will have to suffice.
