Camouflage of Simmer
Jul. 23rd, 2019 09:46 pmI saw my therapist this morning, had coffee, tried to take a nap but failed, scribbled in my notebook for awhile, chatted briefly with Queenie, went to see "Toy Story 4." And that was really about it. It was a perfectly beautiful day, and I should have been out working in my garden, but somehow that just didn't happen. I enjoyed the movie, but it was a little bit melancholy. It's really not about children and toys. It's more about getting old, or perhaps about losing your place in the world--sometimes hanging on too long, sometimes being yanked out of it prematurely through no wish of your own. It's about trying to create meaning and agency in a world where you may not have much to work with. Not really childhood stories.
Also, be warned there are some damn scary ventriloquist dummies! {{Shudder!}} Queenie said they went to see "Lion King," and some kids in the next row were terrified and started crying and had to be removed from the theater by their dad. Queenie and I shared a childhood without TV for the first 10 or 12 years, and with hardly any movies, so we don't have the same feelings about visual representation as most of our peers--let alone a new generation who grew up on movies and TV.
