Rutger Hauer died, alas. I guess I'll have to celebrate our shared birthday on my own. I'll make him a cupcake and put it on a special plate. But not to worry--I still share a birthday with Richard Dean Anderson. It's a good thing that what day you were born doesn't actually mean anything. Otherwise I'd be very puzzled about what we have in common. Adventures in imaginary worlds? Being persons of occasional brilliance who also found ourselves in a few scenes that were real turkeys? Getting fat when we got old (much more likely)?

The chainsaws were buzzing down by the river, chopping the fallen tree into manageable chunks for removal. It was another beautiful day when I should have spent some time working on my garden. Really, my blog posts would be much longer if I listed all the things I did NOT do. We got back to meditation again before the Sparrowhawk went off to his neurology appointment. Overall, he seems to be doing well. Holding the line as far as progression goes, in most areas. He's getting a couple of tweaks to his medication in hopes of helping him sleep better, and a test to see if he has a B12 deficiency.

Oh yes, it is Wednesday, the day on which I should comment on my reading. I'm almost to the end of In the Closet of the Vatican. This was widely portrayed as an unreliable, gossipy scandal-read, but I found it a brilliantly insightful book, albeit one that makes you sit there in stunned silence with your eyes bugging out, from time to time, as you contemplate the complex perfidy of the Catholic Church. It's both tragic and hilarious, and also provided me with insights into my own father. Frederic Martel is definitely a man you'd want to have lunch with. And he shares a name with Joscelyn "Joey" Martel, one of my own favorite unpublished characters. I'd like to have lunch with her one of these days, sigh.
