Equinox of Leave
Sep. 23rd, 2019 10:01 pmGoing back to the hospital was not quite the last thing I wanted to do today, but it could have been on the list. However, I had a mammogram appointment that was made earlier, so I went. The Sparrowhawk dropped me off, because the parking situation is very tiresome right now. I parked myself in the waiting room, and found I'd inadvertently picked the best seat, facing a window through which I could enjoy the morning light moving through the trees, revealing that they are paling just slightly as the sap withdraws, right on cue. One nice thing about Michigan is that no matter where you are, you probably have a good view of some trees. And then the technician came and squashed me in the giant panini machine. I told her she was very deft. She said "What does that mean?" I explained that it meant she was very capable and did things neatly and well. She said "Oh, well that's a compliment then!" I wouldn't have thought that "deft" was a word no longer used in conversation, but I guess that's how it is.
When I got home, I had to take a nap, because I woke up at 4 and couldn't go back to sleep. I woke up when the man from Everdry came to talk about waterproofing the basement. I shamelessly outsourced the task of hearing his pitch to the Sparrowhawk, and busied myself with putting laundry away, very slowly. It was still better than yesterday, when I put away the first round of laundry and had to take two rest breaks. Then I had to go down for the finale when we signed up to have the work done. I ran out of gas about 4 pm. I've eaten some oatmeal, a piece of toast, and an egg. I tried some soup, but had to leave it. I think I've been legit traumatized by this whole process. I used to be tougher than that, but now I'm not. Dear Deb called up to check on me, and we agreed that we're both suffering from a deficiency of the ol' moxie these days.
