Oct. 5th, 2019 10:25 pmAn intervention of sorts has been visited upon me, and it has been represented to me that, given the fact that I've just been quite ill for unknown reasons, and that, whatever the ultimate cause turns out to be, this illness was certainly of a type that can be caused and/or exacerbated by stress, perhaps zooming off to drive 500 miles to another funeral MIGHT not be the very best choice in self-care. (And whatever my state of health, let it never be said that I can't still create long and involved sentences. My deathbed utterance will probably involve complex-compound sentences and possibly the words "and another thing . . . .") Once this had been pointed out, it seemed absurdly obvious. I've only just become able to eat anything resembling a normal meal. I'm hoping to get through another two hours of violin playing tomorrow, and if I do, I'll come home and plotz. It does seem a bit over-optimistic to imagine I will be completely good to go in less than two weeks. It's a relief to admit that, but it's also sad, because I loved my aunt and I do really wish I could go there and be with Mr. Science. It's so hard for me to admit my body can't do things that my mind presents as the obvious best choice.
We were promised sunshine today, and we had a little, for a couple of hours this morning. Then it became cloudy again. This evening it's been raining. This morning we drove over to the old mall where World Market is, to look for loose leaf Twinings Earl Grey tea in a tin. We use an awful lot of tea bags, and I thought we could save on waste by getting what I always think of as "real tea." It's surprisingly hard to find these days. Our local supermarket stopped carrying it. They only have bags now. Success! We did find some. But we also wanted Lady Grey, and that is still elusive. World Market is sort of like a cheap knockoff of Trader Joe's. They carry all manner of weird foods in non-perishable packages. Green tea Kit-Kats! Gift boxes of assorted flavors of mochi! Off-brand hot sauce packaged in fake crystal skulls! We escaped with just the tea and a bag of gummi fangs for Halloween. Dinner tonight: mashed potatoes and a few little bites of pork chop cut up very small. Yeah, I would never survive the food in Illinois. What was I thinking.
