Tiger of Shadow
Oct. 28th, 2019 10:14 pmIt's funny how just one appointment can scramble a day. We had a meeting this afternoon with the financial advisor who is part of the Sparrowhawk's retirement plan. It was just a yearly checkup, so really no stress, but because the money from my mother's account finally got distributed, I had some questions. I needed to collect my documents and think it over. Also I had a long conversation with the Sparrowhawk over morning beverages, so I never did get around to all that raking I was going to do! But that's the beauty of retirement. You can have a long leisurely cup of tea with someone you love, and put off a job till later. Financially, we are carrying out our plan so far and doing pretty well.
After the Sparrowhawk went to the gym, I went out for a walk. It was near sunset. The colors of the trees are magical against the dusk. I was enjoying myself, when my cell phone rang. It was a friend from back in PA. I almost didn't answer, because conversations with her are usually quite involved, but then I thought I'd better. Her voice at the other end didn't sound good. She's in poor health, and has had many troubles of late, and recently made a rather surprising decision to move to another state to live with her daughter, who has also had many troubles and has serious health problems. She was calling to tell me that her daughter has now had a stroke and has lost her peripheral vision. They are hoping she'll recover and get her normal sight back, but there's no guarantee. This complicates everything for her, and she is naturally very upset. It's sad because I wish I could fix this for her, but there's really nothing I can do other than assure her of my love and concern. Getting old is no easy ride, and sometimes being middle-aged is pretty rough too.
