BucklerFern of Ember
Nov. 12th, 2019 10:47 pmA little more snow came overnight. I think we got about four inches in total, which is funny, because it was much less than other parts of the state for a change. I thought about scraping the pavement again, but took the lazy person's way and relied on the winter sunlight to sublimate the remnants. I slept well, but didn't get a lot done today, in spite of earlier resolutions. I browsed through Stand on Zanzibar, because I'd left it lying around before the trip. It's a sad book. I can't decide if John Brunner's version of the 20-teens is worse than the real one, or not. I feel that even our troubled timeline is less harsh than his, but maybe that's just because I don't know enough. I am quite happy that we don't have to speak the horrible mutant 60s argot that he imagined as the dialect of the future. I did manage to pull myself together enough to write 600 words or so. We watched the second episode of The Golden Compass. It continues to be well-done but depressing. When Mrs. Coulter made Lyra put on a proper dress that was too tight, I knew exactly how that poor child felt!
