ArcticAir of Sleet
Jan. 10th, 2020 11:20 pmGlory be, the Lumberjack seems to have turned a corner. His ears popped and he slept through the night. He was seen above ground for longer periods, like a bear coming out of hibernation, and he seems to be getting hungry again. He's really tired of soup. Tron and I went out and got falafel lunches for the three of us so he could have something with more heft than soup. I've been texting and chatting with the Sparrowhawk throughout the day. He sounds much better than yesterday. I think the spinal tap and all the other tests yesterday took a lot out of him. Maybe he'll get into a better routine as the days go by. Deb and the Prussian called him and arranged to come and visit him this weekend. That will be really nice, because there's no way I'm going there. I can hear the rain already pattering on the window and roof. It's going to continue all night, and then turn into freezing rain, and then to snow, and snow all day tomorrow.
Tron and the Lumberjack are now thinking they will try to go home on Sunday. It all depends on the weather, so I'm just hoping for the best. The snow etc. is supposed to stop sometime in the wee hours of Sunday, and then it should be clear. Hopefully the road crews will have salted and scraped the highway into some semblance of driveability by mid-morning when they would want to leave. Once they get out of Michigan, they'll be okay. Now, of course, it is all bittersweet because I know they will be going and their stay is no longer comfortably indefinite. I asked if there was anything I could do to help. They consulted, and said it would help if I could take their grocery list and buy the most important items they'll need, so they won't have to rush out and restock their cupboards when they get home. They've been gone for weeks, so I'm sure they have nothing edible in the house. I brought home another haul of edibles, and was rewarded with another gas coupon, so now we each have one. Tron went out to get sushi for dinner. We're livin' the high life with all this takeout. We have to tempt the appetite of the former invalid so he can regain his strength! I had my favorite for dinner--udon soup with vegetable tempura, and a couple of salmon roe sushis for dessert. Nom! Tron and I watched "The Farewell." It's a really good little movie. Also bittersweet, but beautiful. It made both of us cry a little bit, but not in a bad way.
