Feb. 3rd, 2020

I swear this weather is making me manic. This was the second day of sunshine and temps in the 40s. I am restless, agitated, and filled with a completely irrational enthusiasm and cheer. I hardly recognize myself. I did some writing yesterday, but today was hopeless. I slept late, texted with the Sparrowhawk and had a nice post-birthday conversation with Deb, then leapt into the shower so I'd be ready for another lunch with the Michigan Poet. I thought they'd left town, but apparently they only went to an out-of-town reading, and now they're back for a couple of days before leaving on their long trip. During our dinner last week, she said that she would give me a copy of a chapbook she'd published. After I left, I realized she'd forgotten to do so, but I didn't feel bumptious enough to text her and remind her of this fact. She apparently realized it by herself, so she got in touch yesterday and asked if we could meet and she would give it to me. We had lunch at the same place we'd been to when we first got together. On that occasion, I had banh mi and it really made me sick, so I was a little worried. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with jam, their plainest offering and one that I felt they couldn't mess up. It was delicious. I also had fresh lemonade with lavender, a brilliant combination, followed by a really good cup of coffee. We had an enjoyable visit, and she gave me an inscribed copy of the chapbook, which I'm delighted to have and am really looking forward to reading.

But when I got home, I couldn't settle down to work, and although I had thoughts, I didn't get anything down on paper. I put on my boots and went for a walk before the sun faded. Then I cleaned up my kitchen, which was still in a mess from last night, and ate some leftover beans and veggies for dinner. I thoroughly enjoyed a second round of my own cooking. I talked with the Sparrowhawk, and that was about it. I forgot to mention that yesterday at the library, I browsed the book sale travel section, and scored a guidebook to New Zealand, and a copy of Barbara Grizzuti Harrison's Italian Days, which I'm also looking forward to reading. This is all in direct contravention of my resolve to not import so many books, but hey, it's research!
