Chickadee of Sleet
Feb. 5th, 2020 11:09 pmI had intended to go to the Sparrowhawk's hermitage tomorrow, and stay overnight, so I'd be right there to bring him home as soon as he is released. However, the weather people started threatening us with several inches of snow tonight and tomorrow, so I decided I'd just go today, ha, take that. Then, of course, they took it all back and said oh well, hardly any snow really. But I'd already decided, so I just forged ahead with my revised plan. That meant that a number of things I meant to do didn't get done, but none of them was essential. The Sparrowhawk said he would like another batch of cookies so he could leave some for the staff in gratitude. I thought the furnace person was coming at 10-ish, so I planned to run to the store to get more cookie ingredients before then. But they called and said they had a guy out my way who was running early, so could he come at nine instead. That was just fine with me. I did various kitchen cleaning things and swept floors until he was done, and then ran to the store, and then made three dozen very delicious chocolate chip cookies. They came out just right, the perfect blend of melty and crunchy.
The recycling truck came, so I took the recycling container back into the garage, and I was just about to leave when I saw the garbage truck coming down the street. So I pulled back in and waited, and then took the garbage can back inside. Then I filled the gas tank and finally took off. The weather was clear and the traffic wasn't bad. I arrived about 3:30, when the Sparrowhawk was lying down after getting a spinal tap. He was pretty tired from waking up early to have his blood drawn etc., and he was really glad to see me, so I was extra happy I'd come early. I amused him with my nonsense, fetched and carried a bit because he was supposed to stay lying down, and ate supper with him, and now I'm back in the slightly weird hotel just off the Walter Reuther. When I came out of his building, about an inch of snow had fallen, coating everything and making the roads slippery. I was so glad I was here already and don't have to think about driving tomorrow.
