Trillium of Bloom
May. 15th, 2020 10:34 pmMy brain is in something of a tangle. I slept for less than 5 hours last night--not even sure how I managed that! It was foggy most of the night, and then came some rain and thunder. But it wasn't scary thunder. It was gentle growling thunder, more reassuring than anything else, like the purring of the great thunderbeasts. A dim and damp morning followed, but by afternoon, the clouds had miraculously cleared away, and the air was fresh and warm. I saw the neighbors pottering about their yards in t-shirts and shorts, and the guy across the street was putting the rails up on his truck so he could load up his canoe and go to the river. I was jealous!
I'm fending off episodes of sadness by trying to be useful. This morning, I put away laundry, dismantled a chicken and made broth for future soup, made oatmeal, and boiled some eggs for deviling later in the afternoon. We went out for a walk. The redbuds are blooming. There's a block in our neighborhood where all the doors are charming colors, like the doors of the rebellious Minnipins in "The Gammage Cup." I set my brain to work to memorize them in order: yellow with white trim, fuchsia, burgundy, forest green, aqua, slate gray, periwinkle, teal, mint green, terra cotta.
The Sparrowhawk had his long-delayed OT appointment this morning, all very socially distant and well sanitized! They gave him some exercises to do and will see him for more appointments now that they're beginning to cautiously reinstate non-essential medical care. It was such a nice day that I suggested a picnic supper on the back porch: chicken and bacon sandwiches, deviled eggs, salad, and some leftover sides from the Mother's Day bundle--cole slaw and pasta salad. It was quite a feast, and fun to watch the birds and squirrels frolicking.
