May. 17th, 2020 10:51 pmIt rained all night and most of the day, and is raining again at the moment. Luckily, the Sparrowhawk mowed the front yard yesterday, and I weeded my raised beds and planted some more salad mix and some beans. At one point, I pulled up a weed that was wedged into the wood frame right at the corner. It was like uncorking a bottle full of ants! Evidently they had a nest underneath, and they all came boiling out in a panic. I felt sorry for them, having their nest disturbed by giants in this way. I have a feeling they may have carried off all the lettuce seed I put in earlier. I don't see any sign of it coming up, although I think there's some self-seeded lettuce from last year. Anyway, I've planted some more, and I hope the ants don't get all of it.
Today I spent too much time online. First, Zoom church plus the yearly report, then later a Zoom poetry reading that my friend the Poet was part of. I'm sad because I've had to part with another fragment of my past! The Sparrowhawk was trying to help me with my laptop camera, which wouldn't turn on, and had to do a software update. It turned out this was the update I'd been dreading for some time--the one that made my dear old Four Elements game inoperative. I first played that game on a dreary Christmas Eve in a hotel when the roads were icy and all the restaurants were closed and my friends didn't have time for me and everyone was cross. I played all the levels until I finally beat level 64. Ever since then, I've whiled away my anxiety from time to time by playing a few rounds of the game. But I knew that sooner or later it wouldn't work any more. And now it doesn't. I know there are lots of other games, but none of them will be the same, so I probably just won't bother. It's a pretty silly thing to miss, but there it is.
Later, I made soup, but the Sparrowhawk made a break for it and got us some takeout cheeseburgers, which we ate instead. It's going to rain some more tomorrow, so the soup will still be welcome then.
