I'm not sleeping enough, and my stomach has started bothering me again. I feel restless and irritable, and as if I am getting nothing done. Other than that, everything's fine . . . . Also, the typeface on this Dreamwidth account is suddenly very odd, and tiny. I wonder what it will look like when posted. I have no idea why this has happened. Grr. (See above, re: IRRITABLE.) I went out for a walk in the time window when it wasn't raining. It was hot and humid, but I enjoyed the dark rolling clouds bearing the rain in from the west. The woods smell like honeysuckle and lily of the valley. The wild geraniums are blooming.

A funny thing happened earlier this week: a woman bought an AlphaSmart at a Goodwill store, and discovered there were still some files on it. Some of them had my name on them, and she also noticed that there was what she called "a big chunk of a sci-fi novel." She managed to contact me via a circuitous route involving a forward from Moonmoth, and I asked if she could give me a few details about this text. i couldn't believe that I would have been so careless as to leave anything I hadn't backed up on a AlphaSmart, but I was curious. It turned out the files weren't mine--they belonged to the Nipper and were part of his WIP! He said he was curious to see them, so I asked if she'd be so kind as to send them along, which she did. Then I asked if she read SF herself, and might like a book in return for her kindness. She seemed pleased by the idea, so this morning I signed a copy of Blood and Roses for her, and packed it up. The Sparrowhawk dropped it off at the post office on his way to his physical therapy session. I glanced again at the very nice blurbs on the back that my editor had collected for me. Apparently some people really liked this book. And perhaps it could have been the first of a successful series, as it was intended to be, if the editor/publisher had not gone out of business. Revisiting praise should not make me melancholy, but it does. All things must pass.

We had a nice Zoom chat with Deb and the Prussian. It had been too long. As congenial as I find the coronavirus hermitage in general, I do need to see the faces of people I love from time to time! I sorted out a stack of things for the recycling while watching another episode of "A Discovery of Witches."
