Dec. 5th, 2020 09:36 pmWorking on extricating myself from the latest iteration of funk. Among other things, I think the dark is beginning to get to me. I slept a little late this morning, and when I woke up, the sun was beaming directly through my window and into my eyes in a blaze of gold. That was about 8:30, a whole half hour after sunrise at 7:59. Clouds came and went, but then the sun came out, and we hustled out for a walk before it went away again. At about 12:30, we were gazing across the south-facing lawn in front of the nuns' place, and I remarked that the sun seemed so far south, it was not even halfway up the sky. The Sparrowhawk checked his apps and informed me that in fact it was almost exactly solar noon, so the sun was as high as it was going to get, and it was all of 25 point something degrees up the sky--even lower than I thought! From there it was all downhill until sunset at 5:07.
My knee has recovered, to a certain extent. After sitting around for a couple of days, I can now walk more or less normally, as long as I don't turn around suddenly or pivot. And there is an ominous crik-crak feeling inside even when it doesn't actually hurt. But I couldn't stand to sit any longer, so I limped off into the woods. My joints in general are causing quite a lot of pain. It doesn't help to stay in bed until the sun comes to roust you out if you wake up every hour on the hour because of the achy legs.
Yesterday, I wanted to go to the grocery store, but impelled by regard for Tron, I did not. She hopes to come for Christmas in two weeks, and has requested that we quarantine ourselves even more than usual, and definitely not go shopping. So I tried Fastlane, which is the version of curbside pickup ordering that they have at our local chain. The nearby store where I normally shop doesn't have it, but a sister store does. I swear to goodness I spent as long fiddling with the online ordering process as it would have taken me to go there and do it myself! And I couldn't figure out how to use my coupons, so I was irked that I couldn't save as much money as usual. I barely got done in time to meet Deb and the Prussian for our weekly Zoom, and I arrived at the screen disheveled and irritable, in my pajamas, without having time for a shower! (Of course, that probably doesn't make me so different from a lot of people these days.) They didn't have a pickup time before 6:30 pm, and when the Sparrowhawk went to get the order, he had to sit in the parking lot for half an hour, because it still wasn't ready. They substituted a small bag of beet sugar for the larger bag of cane sugar that I ordered. And they left out the wine and ice cream entirely! Well, I ask you. What is the POINT of even shopping at all, if you can't get wine and ice cream?? Oh well. Maybe I'll get the hang of it if I try it a few more times.
