GlacialLake of Ember
Dec. 9th, 2020 09:51 pmWhat would be nice for me in the winter is if I could just pass out as soon as it got dark and not wake up until dawn. That's not how it works, alas. I woke up every hour on the hour most of the night. Meanwhile, the Sparrowhawk slept until 4:30, but then lay awake until he got up at 7. By then, I was finally asleep and dreaming of visiting with family. It was lovely to see them all, even though I had lost my swimming suit and couldn't remember what city I was in.
After trying to awaken ourselves with a cup of tea, the Sparrowhawk cleaned the ashes out of the fireplace, preparatory to having some nice fires at Christmas. I unloaded the dishwasher and put all the clean pots and pans away. Then I raked up all the leaves that were formerly buried under the buckthorn pile in the back yard, and dismantled and put away the garden fence. And then we went for a walk. We even saw a little bit of blue sky and sunshine in the north. I worked some more on my story, and the Sparrowhawk finally had a little nap. After dinner, we set out to start on the Christmas cards. First I had to write two sympathy cards and a birthday card, and Facebook messenger one of my cousins to ask for her new address. She wrote back right away, and we exchanged a bit of news. One of my last remaining aunts and three of her children have COVID. She's isolated in a nursing home. My cousin said that if the weather is good, she will drive over to the cemetery where her parents and mine are both buried. She very kindly offered to decorate my parents' grave with fresh evergreens, as well as her own folks'. How lovely. I was very touched by this.
