It was a rainy and chilly day, except for about five minutes, when I was all "Look! The sun is out! I should go out and . . . do something . . . oh wait it's gone again. Never mind, will stay on couch." Actually, I did dash out to the store to get a couple of things that were on sale, like more clementines for the Sparrowhawk's First Breakfast. Also three bottles of red wine, pretty much at random. It was supposed to be one bottle of white and one of red, for us, and a second bottle of red in case the book club met in person. But I grabbed the wrong bottle and ended up with three reds. I grabbed this bottle because of the label, which says "Le Clairon des Anges" and has a picture of the corresponding angel with a trumpet. Not a world-ending kind of trumpet, just a cute little one, suitable for waking up people who have a hangover. The second one said it was a Garnacha, which I thought would be a lighter red, as ordered, and the third claimed to have delightful notes of blackberries, etc. etc. so what could be bad? My methods of picking wine are not sophisticated, as you can see. Also, it has to be cheap--under 15 dollars, and if it's less than 10, bonus! The Sparrowhawk says he always likes what I get. We still have one bottle of white. It's called "Mayu," which is Ketchwa for "river" as I just HAPPEN to know. So I want to open that at a time when I think my stomach might tolerate a glass and see if it's any good. I am the scion of a man who liked to buy his wine at the Big Ten Party Store. He would offer us a glass, saying proudly, "I got this for $1.49 from the bargain basket at the Big 10, and it's . . . really quite drinkable!" He was an early adopter of Michigan wine, back when it was really NOT quite drinkable, but he always had hope. And now, we're living in his imagined future, when Michigan wine actually has become quite drinkable. My father could appreciate a fine wine, but he felt there was just something wrong about spending that much money on it.

That was not exactly the tangent I meant to go off on, but one tangent's as good as another, I guess. We had our enjoyable weekly Zoom with Deb and the Prussian. The Sparrowhawk engaged in his book club, though via Zoom not in person. After that finished up, we Facetimed with the Diva. We discussed going there for Angelbaby's high school graduation, and she showed us her wonderful geranium that she grew FROM SEED. My daughter has many talents! She also warmed our hearts deeply by telling us how she is reading Frog and Toad by Arnold Lobel to her students at the preschool, because it was a formative influence in her life and she wanted to pass it on. It's so nice when something you did as a parent turns out well.
