AtlanticPuffin of Sleet
Jan. 24th, 2024 09:17 pmHad a very nice although quiet birthday. It included a nap, which was quite therapeutic. I've had enough time to forget the difficult aspects of the visits, and remember only the fun parts. The little velcro hooks from the past can reach out all they want, but if there are no loops available on the other side, they'll just have to slide right off. The Duchess's birthday cake tasted even better the day after, and the day after that! Yum yum. So there was no need for another cake. In fact, we sent half the leftover cake to the Philosopher and family. Mr. and Ms. Science were going to Chicago, and asked if they could take anything on our behalf, so we sent the cake.
This morning I felt as if I'd been bumped back to regular life with a bang. First I had to go to the dentist and have my teeth cleaned. The hygienist was very busy, but very cheerful, and told me there was "very little build-up." So yay! Having my teeth cleaned every three months is annoying, but I'll keep doing it if it means I don't get threatened with gum disease any more. It's a fine thing to have (almost) all one's own teeth at age 73! I went straight from there to Madame's and took her out to lunch for the first time in a couple of weeks. I think I may have kept her out too long, even though she was loving it and didn't want to go back. She made a trip to the bathroom and came back looking very shaky. I think perhaps we'd better take the walker next time, even though she likes to use just her cane.
The Philosopher texted me about 11:30 last night to say that they were having great trouble getting Aquinas to sleep, so he had not been able to call me to wish me a happy birthday. He called tonight instead, while cooking the rice for their dinner, and we had a nice chat in which I learned more about Aquinas's party and a few other things they had been doing. Then the rice cooker beeped and he was called away to his culinary duties!
