WolfDen of Bluster
Feb. 16th, 2024 10:17 pmLast night was even worse than the night before, in terms of actual sleepage. I finally got a little bonus nap between 6 and 7:30, so I felt kind of okay once I'd had some tea. We had to be ready at 10 for a rather lengthy chat/meeting, but it went well. We were nearly out of bread, so the Sparrowhawk suggested we might have just time to zip over to the bakery, get half price bread, and have lunch together. We managed to not slip on the ice as we gingerly found our way to their door, and I got a really good tuna sandwich and a badly needed coffee. I wrote something nice for Ms. Science's upcoming birthday. Her daughter asked everyone to send tributes to be put in a scrapbook for her. I chose "When I Am Among the Trees," by Mary Oliver. I hope she will take this as a tribute, anyway. It's a poem I really like.
At some point I simply had to lie down. The Sparrowhawk took the opportunity to go out and get me some fish and chips for dinner. I'm trying to observe meatless Fridays in Lent, but he's craftily finding ways to get me enough protein. With my stomach in its current state of opposition, eggs, beans, and cheese can only be consumed in small quantities. The fish was delicious. At my age, it would probably be legit for me to ignore the whole thing, but that seems feeble.
A couple of nights ago, the city changed the streetlights to a new and garish type of bulb, which they claim is going to save them lots of money. It's horribly bright, and the first night they turned them on, they were BLINKING. And not in sync with each other. It's as if they were trying to torture us. Nobody asked for this, and it was not appreciated. I think the city planners got an earful from the neighborhood. Last night, at least they weren't blinking! Fingers crossed that I'll get more sleep than two sketchy naps with intervals of torment in between.
