AtlasCedar of Bluster
Feb. 21st, 2024 09:08 pmIt was a sunny morning with insanely warm temperatures for mid-February--nearly 60 degrees! I was sad that I could not go for a walk, but it was Madame Day. I think she took a great deal of pleasure in telling the staff that no, she was NOT going upstairs to the Bible Study, because SHE was going OUT to lunch. She tottered toward me with her cane, looking worried, and then said that she thought she should bring her walker, which she usually refers to as "oh, you know, that thing." I offered to run back to her room and get it for her, and she muttered "Yes, much safer." So we got the walker and ALMOST managed to get out the door without making the alarm go off. We have very little luck with exiting silently. She hung on to the door handle a little too long, and it started to beep plaintively. I very much agree that the walker is safer. I have to move fast to make all the parts work together, however. I have to open the front door for Madame, get the little wooden step that helps her climb in, stand by in case she slips and needs a bit of rescue, and then get both the step and walker into the back of the car.
I've been a little worried about her, because she seems to be losing some of her moxie. I was glad to hear that a PT is coming three times a week to assist her with exercises for her bad knee. We revisited the topic of her car and house again. She still thinks she will return to her house for the summer, and get her car back. But I think what she is mostly worried about is that she very much wants to see Mademoiselle and the baby after the child is born, and fears that she won't be able to visit them as often as she would like, if she doesn't have her own car. It's worth it to me to miss a walk occasionally to see the occasional spark of happiness when we get onto a more congenial topic. We went home a little earlier than usual today. She has been getting tired faster these days. But we're both looking forward to spring! Her spirits might be lifted then.
