Another beautiful day. Windy and cool, but with more sunshine than yesterday. Once again I had trouble sleeping and woke up with a headache, but it dissipated faster after I had some tea. I wasn't up to going to church yesterday, so we went this morning. The church garden is very pretty, and there were quite a few children. I enjoy watching them. I didn't take time to change out of my church clothes--a daring move considering that I was about to make BBQ sauce and brown some chicken in the frying pan. I had thawed four packages of chicken thighs that I got on sale and put in the freezer for potluck. I sizzled those to make sure the skin would get crispy, made and simmered the sauce, poured the one over the other in the big pan, and put them in the oven to slow-cook. While waiting for the chicken to cook, I also re-boiled the eggs that I had earlier not boiled quite enough, and made deviled eggs for the Sparrowhawk. Two of the eggs were too disheveled by this improper cooking method to make tidy devilment, so I just ate them with toast. Somehow I managed not to anoint myself with grease or BBQ sauce, so my good clothes remain intact.

I had a mini-Zoom out in the backyard. It smells intensely sweet out there, because the privet is blooming. Privet is a reprehensible invader, and I should cut it all down because it's getting way overgrown. I will go after it as soon as I have a minute, but I may leave a little just so I can have this scent for a week or two each year.

We had the potluck in the park today for the first time this year. There were not as many people as usual, but I still wished I had more chicken. People loved it, but there wasn't enough to go around. Now, I know that for a potluck, you're not supposed to bring enough for everyone, because others should bring things too. But this was one of those days when all the other people brought pasta salad and bread. This is why I always try to bring large amounts of protein. Most of these people are young and hungry, and they need something to eat fer Pete's sake. One of the guys told me that when the chicken was gone, he mopped up the sauce with a slice of bread, because it was that good. That makes it quite worthwhile.

My blood pressure has calmed down again. I hope to get some sleep tonight.
