CoalFungi of Bluster
Feb. 20th, 2025 09:53 pmI wouldn't say I'm in the worst possible mood, but it's pretty far down the scale of sub-optimality. Nonetheless I managed to do a good deal of food prep today. We were down to our last slice of bread. I have baked another four loaves and stashed most of them in the freezer. I also made another large pot of enhanced beans. The Sparrowhawk made some rice to go with it. We need this to soak up some of our surplus of salsa. Our favorite kind of salsa is no longer available at our grocery store, so we ordered some online. Meanwhile, the Sparrowhawk bought some different salsa, and so did I, back when we were hosting the Superbowl party. And then the big box of salsa arrived on our doorstep. And one of the party guests brought salsa with him. So now we have a LOT of salsa. We need beans and rice for it to go with. Of course, we could also have nachos to go with the salsa. I'm considering it. But beans are simpler.
I made a grocery store run to lay in other supplies, such as vegetables and salad. I was annoyed when the store didn't have some of the things advertised in the flyer. Grr. And I don't have time to go to the other store, because I'm going on a women's retreat tomorrow--just overnight, and then home Saturday evening. I don't have to drive, because I begged a ride with a friend so the Sparrowhawk would have the car. It's supposedly a nice venue, but this is such a horrible time of year . . . I can't say I'm looking forward to it. Perhaps I'll like it when I get there. I'm in charge of bringing bagels, so at least I know I'll get breakfast. Anyway, the Sparrowhawk is well supplied for my absence. I even bought him a cooked chicken, in case he gets tired of steak sandwiches. I also did my laundry, finally. My secret is to wait until I'm completely out of underwear. The icy wind has now smoothed and molded the snow to the point where it resembles the frosting in a Wayne Thiebaud cake painting. I'm sure I've referred to this before. I urge you to look him up because you will see many delicious desserts and also just enjoy his style.
